A review of the animated movie Muhammed: the last Prophet
had the pleasant opportunity of attending the only showing of “Muhammad The Last Prophet“ in Calgary organized by M.Y media. The animated film was directed by veteran Disney animator Richard Rich, the genius behind the classic “The Fox and the Hound“, and boasted the talents of renowned composer William Kidd whose works include scores in numerous motion picture sound tracks including Star Trek, and The Karate Kid.
Though the film didn’t share the same production quality as their other high budget projects (the animation was comparable to straight to DVD Disney features or Saturday morning cartoons) the film was still impressive to say the least when one takes into account the financial limitations they were faced with. The pacing and feel of the movie staggered at times, mostly in the introduction, with the editing in between scenes appearing choppy. However the movie gained footing after a rough start and carried the story forward into a tremendous ending.
Despite slight visual hiccups here and there the screenplay, epic musical score and voice acting were enough to add to the overall experience of this milestone movie. “The Last Prophet“ is a long overdue venture of Muslims spreading the message of Islam through creative visual means. Muslims should use this picture as an example of the power of art in bringing Islam into the mainstream and I would like to see more of it in a variety of mediums in the future.
